The Sun - You are bloody awful

Yesterday, the british tabloid made a coverage about the city of Bacau, Romania, my hometown. I've seen several posts on the facebook walls of my friends with some local newspapers taking over the news and distribuiting it. From their titles and the articles themselves appeared as the city is the capital of the UK cashpoint theft.. nothing to declare on that, because I do not know the situation.
This morning between the NBA breaks I searched the article that the prestigious gazette published, I was a amazed by the way they wrote the lines. I am reffering strictly to the remarks about the city, not to the gypsies and their thefts that I also incriminate, obviously.

A view of the street I spent my childhood
(The white building in the left is Hotel Moldova, closed for a year and a half already and it's extension that is in this stage for more than 4)

"THE city of Bacau used to be known as one of the poorest places in Romania. Workers laboured in factories or on farmland just to earn a pittance.

But now it is booming. Where there were once merely streets and streets of high-rise flats and run-down shacks, there are now gleaming mansions, some even boasting rooftop hot tubs.
Porsches, Range Rovers and BMWs are parked in the drives and a Range Rover Evoque is on display outside the city’s new shopping mall, which is packed with designer boutiques."

The city is actually becoming poorer and poorer, the factories that they were talking about there were all producing something and people had a place to work. Now there are replaced by these shopping malls and hypermakets which bring cash to the western countries. Almost every line of the towns description is a bit weird, but explicable in a way, especially designed for the british/occidental readers expectations. There aren't more expensive cars than any other place in Romania or Eastern Europe and the mall they are talking in this article in older than 6 years.

Most of this welthiness is not accurate, as in most of the countries suppressed by dictorial regime the mentality is; if you have something now, you need to show to the others how good you are doing and that you are not suffering anymore. It is something probably in the peoples subconscious, doing it naturally, without digesting it to much. Although this is really stupid I know a lot of examples of people having rich cars but living in dormitories, or having huge houses but only using one or two rooms maximum. So maybe this is not something to blame and put all the citizens of Bacau in the same spot with the steales and gypsies.

On the other hand, the article together with the police cooperation is a great initiative that I hope will succeed. But if you are interested, at the end of their article it is explained in a detailed manner the scheme and the way the gangs opperate.

First i will like to mention that I agree that any crime should be punished accordingly, regardless of religion, status, nationality, culture...a crime is a crime and it has to be punished... With what i do NOT agree is with the fact that people do NOT use their brains, they let themselves be brainwashed by media propaganda without taking in consideration that this stupid article implies that the economy of a whole city has risen because of some thieves, by showing pictures of a normal shopping center, some villa ( who might belong to god know what doctor, director or judge) and a Mercedes dealership under the name of one of the most wealthiest person in the whole country, Ion Tiriac, ( whom, by the way, runs the Mercedes dealership under his name in the whole country not only in Bacau, and also he is a well known tennis player). Whomever wrote this article should've come with relevant proof that the economy of Bacau city was boosted because of fraudulent crimes committed in UK...By saying that "THE city of Bacau used to be known as one of the poorest places in Romania. Workers laboured in factories or on farmland just to earn a pittance" is misinformation, Bacau city has never been the poorest places in Romania, actually it has been and still is Moldavia's (Moldavia is a region in Romania) most important industrial center,(the chemical and oil industry, food industry, construction materials industry, wood and paper industry, textile industry, mechanical components industry, aeronautics industry), it has important reserves of oil, coil and salt. So, as you can see the economy of the city doesn't rely on bloody thieves..On another note, the fact that a whole nation is misjudged for the wrong some are doing is appalling...Not all the Romanian citizens take advantage of the benefits in UK, not all Romanians are thieves and be sure that not the entire population of Romania is going to invade UK...Most of them are quite alright where they are and the most of us whom are here, we are paying taxes, we are paying you rents ( which goes towards the mortgages on the properties we rent, so that in years time you can call yourselves the rightful homeowner) , we are paying for our food and travel, we work in your hospitals and save your lives, we paint your houses, we clean your houses, we build your houses..So overall we are contributing to your country's economy...Some of the comments have nothing to do with the article itself and start generalizing and making it sound that the financial situation of UK is because of the Romanians migrants...mind you, most of the migrants in this country do the jobs that British people do NOT want to do..So stop blaming others for things which you do not want to do and start being objective in your judgment without discriminating and blaming others for your problems..Your biggest problem is that you follow media blindly ignoring truths which are in front of your eyes...And YES, if you are wondering, I am from Bacau city and I am disgusted that this article is trashing the name of the city I was born in. And yes I am as appalled as you are by the crimes that those people did, but nevertheless there is no reason and you have no right to trash a whole nation for it and blame them for the wrongs in your country, which I could easily point out, and no offense, are done by your people and your government...
